diffuse some of the tension between president obama and netanyahu. of course president obama is saying to netanyahu, look, do what you got to do, we got your back. how do you see it moving forward? >> i think this was a successful trip. what he did, what president obama did was to give netanyahu a green light. do what you got to do and we've got your back. they have said that before but in the press conference, i thought was very revealing. they kept repeating it. president obama then said we're going to give you a lot more assistance, military assistance to deal with that. netanyahu thanked him for it and said at the end of the press conference that he couldn't resist, now for all of those, i want to make sure you understand the president has really done something significant. he is going to give us the military assistance that we need. i think to translate it all, netanyahu, you do what you got to do. you've got a green light to do it. we will give you the assistance that you need to do it. we will have your back but we're not going to with you shoulder to shoulder. >> arthel:

that is one of the key issues that the two leaders will be discussing. netanyahu will be asking obama, prove to me, show me, that you really will take military action if necessary, if economic sanctions and diplomacy do work then you can stop iran from getting a nuclear bomb. israel really is an skoesten shl issue. that is a question in israel's mind. whether the united states will change its policies at the moment, of course, that will depend on progress in iran. and there is real progress. the question is in iran, how close are they actually to in terms of enriching uranium to that 20% level. how much of it and how soon will they reach the 93% level which means they can make a bomb very quickly. and american intelligence, pretty -- they are pretty close to agreeing on what is happening in iran. what they don't necessarily agree on is what to do about it. >> we should note here for viewers at home, that the joint news conference that was supposed to have started at 2:00 or 2:05, we just received word that it will start at 2:25 instead. the joint news conference between netanyahu and

. there's no doubt that netanyahu preferred romney over obama in the last election. but the fact of the matter is, the president understands as well as netanyahu that the two of them are facing what essentially is israel's greatest peril in the next year, and that is iran's potential nuclear weaponization. and both countries are tied at the hip inso far as what happens to iran. if iran decides to proceed, well, both israel and the united states might find themselves in a conflict against iran. and so there's got to be a better relationship between these two men. not only with respect to iran, but also with respect to israel's growing challenges on its borders, particularly in lebanon with hezbollah in the south with gaza and egypt and, of course, with syria. the last thing that the united states wants is for netanyahu and the israeli people the belief that the president does not have his back and they would have to act unilaterally without due american consultation with israelis. >> and we know, michael, that the president is going to be going to ramallah to be talking to president mahm

minister netanyahu and president obama had their moments. they exchanged laughs. there were, you know, it was a far cry from a moment in the oval office that we saw last year where there was very -- there was a lot of tension. i think that he sort of achieved what he wanted to do there on iran, on middle east peace, on trying to move that along a little. so i think he sort of, you know, this was a trip to really sort of embrace israel, to kind of give them a nod. he hadn't gone his entire four years, his entire first term. so i think that this was a largely positive trip for him. >> andy, the speech the president delivered to young palestinians and israelis on thursday, it was -- it was a great speech. let's listen to some of that. oh, i wish we could have. i just got from my director we don't have it. it was a great speech. did you interpret it that way, as well? i mean it seemed to appeal to both sides. all the applause that was peppered throughout that speech. >> the speech on thursday was the centerpiece of this trip for president obama. it was really the most significant thing. y

together, probably the most intense conversations and time netanyahu and obama have ever spent together. obama has said there is not any leader he has sat with more than netanyahu. this is the most intense period of time that they have had. each one has sober expectations. they have been at this for four years. obama knows that they have different political visions. and it cannot do know is that netanyahu -- netanyahu knows obama is less inclined towards intervention. this could be a good thing. from the israel side, my sense is -- hear about the layout howe saw the conversation and then lay out some other key points, syria, lebanon, and the palestinian issue -- on iran, i think it is clear that men -- that netanyahu people go in, when we hear that certain weaponry has been moved out of the goals, or diplomacy has been indecisive, how do they relate to that? the red line that denis mentioned and the iaea report -- they are down in a uranium. netanyahu will say, i have been vindicated and with red lines. i told you so, mr. president trip obama will say, maybe that means we have more time

they think iran might acquire that capability. these are not netanyahu and israel and obama here not the best of friends. so anything they can do to kind of ease what has been kind of four years of tension between the two would be good so they get on the same page. egypt, you know, the arab spring and the transition from dictatorship, which might have been a dictatorship, but nonetheless certainly helped in terms of the middle east balance of power because it did have a peace treaty with israel. that hasn't gone so well. we're talking about the war in syria spilling over into israel. there's no shortage of things to talk about. and i think i would also just add that presidents in second terms use a broader palette when they go after issues. they are looking at the history books. every president has tried to do something about middle east peace in particular between israel and the palestinians. i think that clock also ticks for the president. >> and how important is it for the u.s. and israel to see eye-to-eye, namely the leaders of this country, to see eye-to-eye specifically at a ti
